The Algarve is one of Europe’s most popular golfing destinations. Vilamoura is the bustling heart of the area and its golf capital. The marina town is located just 20km from Faro Airport with six resort courses within a five-minute shuttle as well as excellent shopping, restaurants and bars. Neighbouring Vilamoura are the quiet, upscale resorts of Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo, with golden beaches and direct access to the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve. Lagos is a more typical Portuguese seaside town in west Algarve, with a wonderful sheltered beach, historic sights, shopping, music and bars. Visitors to Le Meridien Penina, near Lagos, can enjoy the relaxed ambience of Penina, with its own Beach Club, and walk-on access to one of the best courses in Portugal as well as an excellent golfing academy. In the east, the quieter town of Tavira offers excellent golf at Quinta da Ria, Seve Ballesteros design Quinta do Vale, and the exclusive Jack Nicklaus course, Monte Rei. Weather: Golf high season is from Mar-Apr, and Sept-Oct, with daytime temperatures averaging 25-30ºC (75-85ºF). |
