Château des Vigiers is a hotel, golf and country club tucked away in the beautiful and unspoilt countryside of the Dordogne, South West France, right in the heart of the famous wine districts.

Located just 20-minutes from Bergerac Airport and about an hour east of Bordeaux, Château des Vigiers is easily accessible from many airports.

The Château forms the centrepiece of a 27-hole championship golf course designed by Donald Steel. Extensive golf facilities include a six-hole academy course, golf tuition with the English speaking resident pro, driving range and practice greens. Buggies and clubs can be hired.

Known locally as “Petit Versailles” and dating back to 1597, Château des Vigiers has been restored to its former glory and is now a luxurious 4-star hotel with 87 rooms and suites.

The Chateau offers guests the The Maria Galland™ Beauty Centre – for beauty treatments, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, outdoor heated swimming pool and fitness centre.

For fine dining, enjoy local delicacies such as foie gras and magret de canard. “Le Chai” is perfect for lighter snacks with chef’s more refined creations at the restaurant “Les Fresques”.

Château des Vigiers is the perfect base from which to explore the region - with famous towns and attractions such as St Emilion, Sarlat, Lascaux and Bergerac all within easy reach.

Château des Vigiers produces its own award winning red, white and rosé wine (A.O.C. Bergerac) and can organise private wine tastings at some of the most famous “grand cru” vineyards in the region.

Guest Rooms

Château des Vigiers has a total of 87 rooms housed in three different buildings on the estate - the Château, the Relais and the Dépendances, all within close proximity of the restaurants, golf course and other hotel facilities.

The Château: The Château has 25 bedrooms and has been carefully restored in French Country House style and retains many of the original 16th Century features – suitable for adults.

Château Deluxe Rooms (30m²-45m²): Deluxe rooms with views over the golf course or the park. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated in French country house style using period furniture. Each with en-suite bath and separate WC.

Relais des Vigiers: Relais des Vigiers has 40 rooms located next to the 1st tee and within a few yards of the pro shop and Brasserie. Houses its own breakfast room, bar, heated swimming pool and high-tech fitness centre.

Relais Tradition Rooms (36m²): Built to strict "Eco Friendly" standards, the "Tradition" rooms are spacious and each has a terrace or balcony with stunning views over the golf course and vineyards. Each room has ensuite walk-in shower room and separate WC. These rooms are particularly suited to golfers and families. The Relais also houses its own breakfast room, bar, pool and fitness room.

The Dépendances: Impressive junior suites situated a stone’s throw from the Chateau, the Dépendances were built in typical Périgord style where local stone and oak beams have been used to great effect.

Standard Dépendances (28m²): Standard Dépendances rooms, adjacent to the Junior Suite, on the ground floor, have a cottage feel to them. Each room has an en-suite "walk in" shower room.

Dépendances Junior Suite Dépendances (55m²): The Junior Suite "Dépendances" consist of a light, airy sitting room with double height ceilings and terrace on the ground floor and the bedroom and bathroom on the mezzanine floor. The décor is a warm mix of stone, oak beams and terracotta tiles.

Combining a Junior suite "Dépendances" with a Standard Room, creates a 2-bedroom junior suite, ideal for families or couples travelling together.

All rooms are air conditioned and have wireless broadband internet access and are equipped with mini-bar and Satellite LCD TV. Below you will find the description of the rooms.

Bar/Dining

Brasserie Le Chai: The Brasserie is situated in the old wine making building and retains the character and charm of its historic origins including its impressive vaulted ceiling. In the warm and relaxed atmosphere, golfers, families and their friends gather in front of the open fire in winter or outside on the terrace in the summer under the shade of an ancient walnut tree. The restaurant serves lighter meals such as omelettes or salads as well full menus including local specialities such as foie gras and confit de canard. The Brasserie is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner whilst the hotel is open.

Private Dining Rooms: The Salon Champagne is situated in the oldest part of the Château. It is the ideal place to savour gourmet cuisine amongst friends in an ancient room that dates back to the 11th Century.

The Salon Chai is situated in the spectacular old wine making building. The room is extremely spacious and special attention was given during its renovation to its unique architectural qualities. The room is ideal for larger parties and can welcome from 50 to 140 guests.

Leisure Facilities

Chateau des Vigiers has a fully equipped fitness centre and 2 tennis courts and the Maria Galland Beauty Centre.

The golf course has a six-hole academy course, ideal for beginners, as well as a driving range, chipping greens, putting green and practice bunkers.

Local Area

Chateau des Vigiers is an ideal base for wine lovers. The hotel has its own vineyard and can also arrange trips to the neighbouring vineyards in Bergerac, as well as the world famous vineyards of St Emilion, Pomerol, Sauternes and Médoc.

Other highlights of the Dordogne region include the caves at Lascaux and the beautiful market town of Le Bugue.

Les Fresques Restaurant

Situated in the West Wing of the ancient Château de Vigiers, Les Fresques is a gourmet restaurant adorned with Renaissance style frescos. With a cosy and chic atmosphere, diners enjoy superb views over the lake and a high standard of cuisine accompanied by discreet and professional service. The menus are simple and delicious and vary according to the season with an emphasis on seafood and local produce, with a local wine-list to match! Open for dinner every night except Sunday and Monday.

Château des Vigiers is set within 450 acres in the heart of the wine district of the Dordogne, one hour east of Bordeaux. Donald Steel, considered to be one of the very best "natural" golf course architects, has created 27-holes set among plum trees, oak woods, lakes and vineyards, with the Château taking the centrepiece for the 9th and 18th. When asked by Golf World to name his favourite hole from his long career, Donald Steel chose the 18th at Château des Vigiers, with its dogleg over a ridge leading to a second shot across a lake to the green in front of the Château. The course is maintained in a very high condition, with fast greens. Strategic pin positions and longer rough can turn the course into a challenge for the best golfer. One of the members at Chateau des Vigiers is former Ryder Cup player, Per Ulrik Johansson, who holds the course record of 66. The third nine was only added in 2008, with the first three holes running through a beautiful valley for which the nine is named “La Vallée”.
