A - The average is 15-16 years, with the youngest, 14 years old, with our age limit 17.
Q - What is the average ability of those attending?
A - In 2007, the average handicap for boys was 10, and for girls, 16. Our high handicap is 16 for boys, and 28 for girls, and each year we receive a number of low handicap players.
Q - Does it matter if a junior is a lower or higher handicap than the average?
A - No. In general, tuition is on an individual basis, and for play, juniors are grouped with players of a similar ability or nationality. Almost everyone attending Junior Lorrin really enjoys and benefits from the programme.
Q - Where do participating Juniors travel from?
A - Our juniors travel from throughout the British Isles, including Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales, and also from mainland Europe, Middle East, Hong Kong, Singapore, the US and Central America.
Q - Who is the Golf Programme suitable for?
A - Juniors who are interested in developing their golf games, lowering their handicap and those aiming for golf scholarships or even a professional career. Our golf academy is aimed at players with some experience, rather than beginners, and includes play on great golf courses in the area for practice and enjoyment.
Q - What is the boy/girl ratio?
A - Typically, 6 boys to every girl, which reflects the number of boys/girls who play golf. We do have female members of staff, and girls have their own sleeping quarters.
Q - What happens in the evenings at Academy?
A - Activities such as sports, movies and other entertainment.
Q - Does Lorrin Golf provide a safe-keeping service for money and valuables?
A - Yes & No. Passports and flight tickets may be left with staff for safe-keeping. We do not however accept money for safe-keeping.
Q - How much spending money is required?
A - Full board accommodation, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, is included with Academy Fees, in addition to practice balls, tuition and green fees. Spending money is required for refreshments, golf trolleys if required, golf balls for daily play, or practice golf balls in addition to the amounts provided, and other such items. £30-£50 per week.
Q - Are golf trolleys available for hire?
A - Golf trolleys/caddie cars are available to hire from £3-£5 daily.
Q - Are there laundry facilities?
A - Yes, available at weekends for those staying for more than one week.
Q - What do Juniors do when they are not receiving tuition?
A - Juniors have full use of practice facilities at St Andrews Links before, during and after tuition. Juniors also play 5 golf courses in 6 days, with different competitive formats. Scorecards are maintained and presented to our Instructors as a feedback on the progress away from lessons. Juniors also have the opportunity to prepare for the golf courses that they play throughout the week, with the assistance of the “Course Strategy” area on LorrinLevels.com. Golf Course planners are provided to every Junior for every golf course played. |
